A WordPress social network case study : Homeworking Alliance

The client

The Homeworking Alliance is a networking group for homeworkers and small businesses. Set up as a fee-paying organisation in March 2011 the Alliance has grown quickly from one group meeting once a month in Market Harbrorough to now (just over four months later) holding meetings in Lutterworth, Kettering, Hinckley and Northampton, in additon to the original Market Harborough venue.

The job spec

The client wanted a website to promote the group as a whole but also as a vehicle for promoting the profile of individual members and acting as a medium for communication between members.
The solution

We regsistered the homeworking alliance domains on behalf of the client and looked into using WordPress as a means of creating an economical but professional and effective website. By using a combination of WordPress, Buddypress and BBPress we have been able to create a site which:

– has individual member logins and profile pages

– has a forum for members use

– has a list of group pages which correspond to the group meetings held and which display information relevant to the group

– has a number of blog pages, some of which are restricted to management and others which are open to all members

The result

The Homeworking Alliance website is a fully functional social network which continues to evolve with the group.
